February 24, 2021
Time: 11:30AM EST
Join us with art historian and curator Sharon Hecker for a presentation and conversation with Milan editor Elisa Carollo on due diligence before buying and selling art. Dr. Hecker created The Hecker Standard ® of due diligence, an evidence-based process of conducting rigorous art historical research, with the goal of providing unbiased information on art objects. She writes about interactions between art-historical scholarship, the market, and the law, as related to questions of authenticity, attribution, expertise, and due diligence, and has led workshops on due diligence for organizations such as the ADR Camera Arbitrale di Milano, Associazione Italiana Family Office (AIFO), among the others.
Dr. Hecker specializes in modern and contemporary Italian art and has published books and articles on key twentieth-century Italian artists such as Medardo Rosso, Lucio Fontana, Luciano Fabro, Francesco Lo Savio, Giuseppe Penone, and Marisa Merz. She has curated exhibitions at the Harvard Art Museums, the Pulitzer Art Foundations, and the Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac.
Dr. Hecker is a founding member of the International Catalogue Raisonné Association (ICRA) and is Coordinator of the Expert Witness Pool for the Court of Arbitration for Art (CAfA).
