Swiss born photographer Gabriella Imperatori-Penn (b. 1963) has followed her passion for photography since the age of fifteen. After graduating from Swiss Gymnasium, Imperatori-Penn worked four years with the acclaimed Swiss photographer Raymond Meier, her mentor, with whom she expanded her knowledge and craftsmanship of both photography and printmaking.

She moved to New York City in 1986 and opened her first studio in Soho in 1988. The artist was drawn to the quiet conversations of still life, which led to an extensive commercial and editorial career. Finding it critical to maintain a balance between her thriving advertising career and her passion for fine art, Gabriella found her “sanctuary” in landscape and nature photography, which is the center point of her fine artwork. In March 2020, Imperatori-Penn’s photography placed first in the juried exhibition Heart Goes Nine hosted by the Rhode Island Center for Photographic Arts curated by art historian, J. Sybylla Smith.

In the long span of her career, the Swiss photographer has worked for some of the most influential magazines such as American VogueHarper’s BazaarTown & CountryDeparturesElle DecorO (the Oprah Magazine), Martha Stewart Living, and Architectural Digest, as well as some of the most prestigious advertising clients such as Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Knoll, L’Oreal, Lancôme, and Cartier.

Imperatori-Penn’s works are held in numerous private collections and been exhibited by Steven Kasher Gallery, Mana Contemporary, and Space Gallery St Barth.
