Description

Shoes have transformative power, almost like drugs. This assemblage conveys a desire for transformation, whether through drugs or shoes; both alter the body and change who you are. Shopping is an addiction like some drugs, these art pieces also evoke high falling in shoes while using drugs. The right or wrong pairing can give you a different character. Toy doll shoes are mass produced in China and India, like many generic drugs that often have overlooked negative effects. This collection is very close to Kristin Simmons, as she included her own assets. The Barbie shoes featured are from Simmons’ personal collection from childhood, and the pill bottles are her own, which she sprayed and repainted. The stickers are designed to mimic the “may cause drowsiness / do not operate heavy machinery” which is included on many pill bottles today.
