Joan Mitchell Remains Number One Best-Selling Woman Artist

Joan Mitchell remains number one best-selling woman artist but number twenty-two on the overall charts–“at least she’s one above that crazy one-eared freak Van Gogh.”

Coming in hot at number two is Yayoi Kusama, followed by Louise Bourgeois, Agnes Martin, and surprisingly, the O.G. G.O. herself—Georgia O’Keeffe. That’s “Keeffe” not “queef”—spelled with two Fs, not one. The history of misspelling O’Keeffe’s name continues with a new tribute in Manhattan’s Grand Central Terminal, possibly what also spiked a recent interest in her market, on top of her recent sale of top-notch works from Paul Allen’s $1.5 billion dollar art collection at Christie’s last year.
